Amsterdam. Again. Gassan Diamonds & Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder

Gassan Diamonds, Nieuwe Uilenburgstraat 173-175, Amsterdam

Gassan Diamonds is located in a former steam-driven diamond factory in the center of Amsterdam. You can watch diamond cutters at work while a guide tells you all about diamond processing.

all together worth a nice car? a horse? a home?

can you see the diamond?
(I think he was working on a 0,5 carat diamond)

57 facets brilliant cut or 121 Gassan cut?

Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder, Oudezijds Voorburgwal 40, Amsterdam

Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder (Our Lord in the Attick) is a 17th century canal house, house church and museum in the city centre of Amsterdam. The Catholic Church was built on the top three floors of a canal house during the 1660s. It is an important example of a "schuilkerk" (clandestine church) in which Catholics and other religious dissenters from the seventeeth century Dutch Reformed Church, unable to worship in public, held services. Since 1888, the church is open as a museum.

Amsterdam. Again. The VOC ship.

Pictures from the replica VOC ship "De Amsterdam" at the Scheepvaartmuseum. For more pictures inside the ship, visit my blog "Amsterdam" from October 2012.

Amsterdam. Again.

Reunion of the Twin Brothers
A short trip to Amsterdam. How fun.

  • at Belp Airport check-in they told me my passport had expired (since 5 days). what?
  • my suitcase got lost somewhere between Berne and Amsterdam. what??
  • wifi at the hotel was lousy
  • the hotel bed made me feel seasick
  • I forgot to validate my trainticket (no I do not have a OV chipcard). shoot.
  • I lost my airport parking ticket. darn.
  • .....
  • .....
  • oh well.....
So that was some of the bad part.

This was most of the fun part:

  • we had delicious "rijsttafel" at Sampurna again
  • we (re)visited the Rembrandt House
  • we were at the NEMO Science Museum twice
  • we visited the Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder Museum
  • we had Sushi all you can eat at SUMO
  • we visited the Begijnhof
  • we visited Gassan Diamonds (no my hubby didn't buy me one)
  • we were at the Amsterdam Museum to see the "Gouden Eeuw" Exhibition
  • we searched for MC Escher art works and couldn't find any
  • we were on the VOC ship at the Scheepvaartmuseum
  • we had HEMA puddingbroodjes for breakfast
  • I visited the Nieuwe Kerk on the Dam

But we were there only for 2 days!!!! Stay tuned, more pictures to come......
